1.2 Comparison - Degree of Equality

The degree of equality is expressed by the structures:

1.  AS + adjective + AS  => to show equality

• Tom is as clever as Jim.
• Is English as difficult as French?
• The weather in Belgium is as rainy as in England.

2.  NOT AS/ NOT SO + adjective + AS  => to show difference

• You are not as/not so old as Jane.
• English chips are not as/not so tasty as Belgian chips.
• We are not as/not so keen on fishing as you.
